Aftercare for minimally invasive laser lipo

Because it involves a degree of surgery, minimally invasive laser lipo requires a reasonable level of aftercare to avoid infection and other complications.

First seven days after treatment

How you’ll feel

You’ll feel some:

  • fatigue
  • soreness
  • swelling and bruising

These are normal side effects and can be alleviated with over-the-counter painkillers.

Compression garment

Your doctor may give you a compression garment to wear. This is a tight item of clothing that puts pressure on the treated part of your body. The pressure helps reduce swelling, bruising and discomfort and will speed up the healing process.

You’ll likely be told to wear the garment for:

  • 24 hours a day for around three weeks
  • 12 hours a day for another three weeks

Resuming your normal activities

Most people who have the procedure can go back to their normal activities after a couple of days.

After a few days, you should be able to do mild exercise—for example:

  • walking
  • exercise bike
  • elliptical trainer
  • weight training for arms and legs

However, you should avoid strenuous physical activity, intense exercise and sex until your doctor says you’re fine to resume them.

Time off work

Some patients choose to take one or two days off work after the treatment to get the best out of their recovery. This isn’t necessary, but it can make the recovery process easier.

One week after treatment

How you’ll feel

Swelling and bruising should begin to subside. You’ll still experience some mild pain. The area of your body you had treated might feel a little numb—this could last for a few weeks before it goes away.

Follow-up visit

Attend a follow-up meeting with your surgeon so they can check you’re healing properly. If any issues have arisen during your recovery, you must tell your surgeon, no matter how minor you believe the issues are.

Several weeks after treatment

How you’ll feel

You may be bruised and tender for up to four weeks. You might still have some swelling.

Follow-up visit

You’ll need to schedule another follow up visit for your doctor to monitor your progress.

Resuming your normal activities

You’ll be able to return to more of your normal activities as you continue to heal. However, don’t try to push yourself too much as this may set you back in your recovery.

Aftercare for non-invasive laser lipo

As this procedure involves no incisions or surgery, the recovery process is much faster and virtually pain-free.

Some patients even find that they don’t need any recovery at all, and that simply taking a few minutes to rest immediately after the procedure is enough.

One to two days after treatment

How you’ll feel

You may have some mild pain in the treated area—similar to how your muscles feel when you’ve finished some intense exercise.

Practitioners of some non-invasive treatments suggest exercising on the day of your treatment to help your body break down the fatty tissue. Just leave it to how you feel—your body will break down the fatty tissue either way.

Drink lots of water for the rest of the day. Good practice even if you haven’t had surgery!

Several weeks after treatment

How you’ll feel

You don’t need to do anything special, and you shouldn’t be in any pain.

Enhancing results

From around six weeks you should start seeing some changes in your body shape. You can enhance the results by:
